In short: When the eleventh season of All Stars premiered on Paramount+, fans noticed more than just new faces. The competition underwent a significant structural shift, altering how queens advance through the brackets and how the returning champion enters the fray.

Announced during the finale of season 18, the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars brought a modified tournament format to the screen. While the competition retained the basic structure seen in season 10, the path to victory became more difficult. In this iteration, only two contestants from each bracket progressed to the semifinals, a reduction from the three contestants who advanced in previous seasons. This strategic adjustment to the bracket system meant fewer queens survived the early stages of the competition. The change fundamentally altered the tension of the tournament's middle phase.

The mechanics of the 'returning queen' role also changed. Rather than waiting for the grand finale to rejoin the competition, the returning queen entered the game at the merge stage. For this season, that role was filled by Joey Jay, a former runner-up who previously lost to the season winner, Crystal Methyd. Joey Jay's re-entry at the merge stage meant the competition faced a sudden influx of established talent mid-season. This shift forced the remaining contestants to adapt to a much higher level of difficulty.

The season, which premiered on May 8, 2026, also featured an eclectic lineup of celebrity guest judges. The panel included diverse talents such as singer and actor La Toya Jackson, singer-songwriter Reneé Rapp, and actress Gina Gershon. Other judges included comedian Janelle James, television personality Bronwyn Newport, and actor and comedian Evan Mulrooney. The guest judging roster was further fleshed out when the identities of the celebrity judges were made public on April 29. This lineup brought a mix of music, film, and comedy expertise to the panel.

Beyond the main judging panel, the season featured notable appearances from industry figures and alumni. This included Norvina, the president of Anastasia Beverly Hills, and Raven, a veteran of both the second season of the original series and the first season of All Stars. The presence of Evan Mulrooney as both a guest and a judge added a unique layer to the season's appearances. His involvement highlighted the diverse range of performers visiting the main stage.
