A new twist in the Drag Race Hall of Fame competition changes the game
In short: The eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars introduced a parallel competition alongside the main event. While contestants vied for a spot in the Hall of Fame, eliminated queens participated in a fan-voted contest for a significant cash prize, fundamentally altering the stakes for those sent home early.
The season's arrival was teased during the finale of the fifteenth season of the main franchise, with the full cast reveal occurring on April 20. This iteration of the competition brought a structural innovation designed to keep eliminated performers engaged throughout the entire season.
The primary addition was the Queen of the Fame Games competition. Throughout the season, the runway looks of eliminated contestants were showcased during the companion series Untucked. This allowed fans to vote for their favorite eliminated queen, who would ultimately receive a $60,000 prize. This figure was an increase from the $50,000 originally announced. The initiative provided a secondary narrative arc, ensuring that even those who did not reach the final stage of the main competition remained central to the viewer experience.
The season concluded with Jimbo winning the title of All Stars champion, while Kandy Muse finished as the runner-up. LaLa Ri secured the inaugural Queen of the Fame Games title. The season also featured a diverse array of guest judges, including comedian Robin Thede, dancer JoJo Siwa, and podcaster Bowen Yang, among others like Matt Rogers, Adam Shankman, Brandon Boyd, and Thom Filicia. Additionally, several franchise alumni, such as Raven, Shannel, and Katya, made appearances throughout the episodes, though they did not serve as judges on the main stage. Sunday Riley, president of Sunday Riley Cosmetics, also appeared as a guest during the season, highlighting the intersection of beauty branding and drag performance culture.
