The high-stakes search for the next UK drag superstar
In short: As the seventh series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK prepares to ignite, the machinery of casting is already in motion. From the initial social media announcement to the highly anticipated premiere on BBC Three, discover the timeline behind the production of this premier drag competition.
The production cycle for RuPaul's Drag Race UK series 7 began long before its television debut. Following a social media announcement on 13 September 2024, the search for new talent was officially underway. Potential contestants had a narrow four-week window to submit their applications, which officially closed on 11 October 2024. This intensive recruitment phase set the stage for the filming process that commenced in January 2025 at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. The recruitment process was strictly time-limited. This brief period ensured a high volume of competitive entries for the production team.
The series maintains a star-studded judging panel, led by the return of RuPaul as the main host and head judge. Joining him to evaluate the queens are Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, and Graham Norton. This lineup ensures a blend of drag expertise and mainstream entertainment authority, a hallmark of the franchise's UK iteration.
Marketing for the seventh series followed a strategic rollout. The first teaser trailer, featuring close-up shots of the queens and the iconic phrase "Start Your Engines," aired on 11 August 2025. This was followed by the full cast reveal by the BBC on 22 August 2025, accompanied by a promotional poster featuring RuPaul. The series finally premiered on BBC Three on 25 September 2025, continuing the show's legacy of celebrating drag artistry on a national stage. The broadcast will air on BBC Three. This platform serves as the primary home for the competition's latest installment.
