How a social anxiety coping mechanism created a legendary mage
In short: In the Kingdom of Ridill, Monica Everett is a child prodigy and one of the Seven Sages. However, her unprecedented ability to perform unchanted spellcasting—a feat unmatched in the kingdom's history—wasn't born of pure ambition, but was actually a byproduct of her intense social anxiety.
The series Secrets of the Silent Witch follows Monica Everett, a young mage who became the youngest member of the Seven Sages at age 15. While her mastery of unchanted magecraft earned her the title 'Silent Witch,' the skill actually developed as a coping mechanism to manage her profound social anxiety. This unprecedented ability allowed her to bypass the need for spoken incantations, a technique never before seen in the history of the kingdom. This unique magical talent was first cultivated during her time at Minerva's Mage Training Institution. Consequently, she earned the moniker 'Silent Witch' due to this remarkable skill.
Monica's reclusive lifestyle in a mountain cabin is interrupted when Louis Miller, a fellow Sage known as the Barrier Mage, recruits her for a covert mission. Under the false identity of Monica Norton, a commoner adopted into a noble family, she must infiltrate Serendia Academy. Her objective is to act as a bodyguard for the kingdom's second prince, Felix Arc Ridill, while navigating the complexities of noble society. She assumes the persona of a second-year student to maintain this disguise. This mission is assigned to her by the King of Ridill.
The narrative explores Monica's struggle to overcome her anxiety through her interactions at the academy. Despite her immense power—which includes single-handedly defeating the Black Dragon of Worgan—she remains a timid 16-year-old who finds social encounters, such as Felix's affectionate gestures, deeply uncomfortable. Her journey is one of personal growth, moving from a shut-in to a student attempting to build genuine connections within the academy's social hierarchy. Her reputation grew significantly after she single-handedly destroyed the Black Dragon of Worgan. She currently serves as the Accountant for the academy's Student Council.
