The final chapter for Prue Leith on The Great British Bake Off
In short: Series 16 of the beloved baking competition marked a significant turning point for the show. As the final series to feature judge Prue Leith, the competition saw Jasmine Mitchell rise above intense showstopper challenges to claim the title, leaving her competitors to face the threat of elimination.
The sixteenth series of The Great British Bake Off premiered on 2 September 2025. The judging panel for this installment consisted of Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, with Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding serving as presenters. The contestants were officially announced on 19 August 2025. Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding returned to host the program.
The competition was intense, particularly during the showstopper rounds. In a notable trend during the series, Jasmine Mitchell was the only baker who could be considered for the Star Baker title; every other contestant faced potential elimination or failed to meet the Star Baker criteria due to missteps during the showstopper challenges. Jasmine Mitchell eventually took first place, while Tom Arden and Aaron Mountford-Myles secured the second and third positions.
The series structure followed a rigorous weekly format, beginning with Cake Week and progressing through Biscuit, Bread, Back To School, Chocolate, Pastry, Meringue, and Dessert weeks, before reaching the Pâtisserie semifinal. The challenges varied from technical tasks, such as creating nine Fondant Fancies or twelve Slice and Bake biscuits, to complex showstoppers like a 45-centimeter-high macaron centerpiece. The season also included festive specials, such as The Great Christmas Bake Off, which aired on Channel 4 on Christmas Day 2025. The New Year special featured returning contestants like Rahul Mandal and Giuseppe Dell'Anno. This festive edition required bakers to craft savoury pies for their signature task.
