In short: When Pink and City and Colour decided to collaborate, they didn't plan a massive studio campaign. Instead, they leaned into a friendship, writing an entire debut album in just one week. Discover how escaping production pressures led to a chart-topping success across North America.

The duo You+Me was born from a long-standing friendship between Alecia Moore, known globally as Pink, and Dallas Green, who performs as City and Colour. While the two had been connected through mutual friends for years—with Green even opening for Moore during her UK performances—their professional collaboration was a much more recent development. The spark for the project was not a formal business arrangement, but a shared desire to experiment with acoustic ballads and different songwriting perspectives.

In March 2014, a rare alignment of their schedules allowed the pair to finally sit down and compose. The process was remarkably rapid; having already prepared several musical fragments, they were able to shape their debut album, Rose Ave., within a single week. Green noted that the absence of typical production pressures and the novelty of working with a different creative voice provided a significant boost to their creative energy.

Despite the possibility of an independent release, the duo chose to release Rose Ave. through RCA Records, Moore's label, to navigate legal complexities and ensure a wider audience reach. The resulting album, released on October 14, 2014, was a significant commercial success, reaching number one on the Canadian charts and number four in the United States. The creative momentum of the partnership even resurfaced years later, with Green mentioning in June 2021 that he had written nearly an entire new record for the duo.
