In short: In the science fiction series Aaron Stone, sixteen-year-old Charlie Landers is recruited to embody his world-renowned video game avatar. Tasked with protecting the world, he faces a group of brilliant minds turned villains, all while balancing his secret identity with the challenges of high school and family life.

Created by Bruce Kalish, Aaron Stone debuted on February 13, 2009, as the first original series on Disney XD. Filmed in Toronto, Canada, the show distinguished itself from other network live-action programming through a notably darker tone and complex narrative. The plot centers on Charlie Landers, an elite player of the fictional game Hero Rising, who is enlisted by T. Abner Hall, the creator of the game and head of HALL Industries, to act as his avatar, Aaron Stone, in real-world combat.

The primary antagonists, the Omega Defiance, were originally a think-tank assembled by Hall to improve humanity. However, after experimenting with an intelligence-enhancing serum that proved flawed, the seven members became aggressive and sought world domination. Throughout the series, Charlie is supported by his android sidekick S.T.A.N.—an acronym for Sentient Tactical Assisting Neo-human—and his neighbor Emma Lau, a skilled hacker. The show’s second season shifted focus toward Sector 21 mutants, escapees from the Defiance's experiments who sought revenge against their captors.

Despite its unique premise, the series concluded after two seasons. On November 11, 2009, it was announced that the show would not be renewed, as Disney XD shifted its strategy toward comedy-based live-action content. The final episodes aired in 2010, and by 2015, the network ceased reruns. Nevertheless, the fictional game Hero Rising left a subtle legacy, appearing in later Disney productions like the film Descendants and the series Good Luck Charlie.
