In Brooms Town, a specialized rescue squad teaches children essential safety through high-stakes action.
In short: Created by RoiVisual, the South Korean animated series Robocar Poli follows a team of transforming vehicles that protect their city. Across 120 episodes, these machines tackle accidents and emergencies, offering clear, actionable safety advice to characters and viewers alike at the conclusion of every mission they undertake together.
Debuting in 2011 on the Educational Broadcasting System, Robocar Poli spans five seasons of eleven-minute episodes. The narrative centers on Brooms Town, a small city prone to diverse hazards, ranging from vehicles sliding off cliffs to children trapped in firehouses. The core rescue team is led by Jin, the only human member and a prolific inventor who provides the squad with specialized gadgets. While the team is primarily composed of sentient, transforming machines, their mission is rooted in the practical education of the audience regarding traffic, fire, and daily life safety.
The rescue team features four primary members, each with distinct capabilities. Poli, a blue and white police car, leads the team and manages traffic safety, boasting the highest top speed. Amber, a pink and white ambulance van, serves as the team's medical expert, utilizing her vast knowledge and computer skills to provide tactical solutions. Roy, a red and yellow fire truck, is the team's physical powerhouse, equipped with various attachments like cranes and hoses to handle fire and electrical emergencies. Helly, a green and white helicopter, acts as the scout, using his aerial agility to transmit information and calm victims before the rest of the team arrives.
As the series progressed, the scope of the rescue operations expanded beyond Brooms Town. Season 4 introduced the Mountain Rescue Team from Treasureville, featuring Mark, a brave pickup truck leader, his best friend Bucky, and the powerful aircraft Carry. By Season 5, the Desert Rescue Team from Sandville joined the fold, including the athletic leader Sandy, the drone Droney, and the multifunctional Keaton. Despite the introduction of these diverse units and various antagonists like the kidnapper Truck-X or the hunter Poacher, the show maintains its focus on safety. Whether dealing with complex rescue missions or simple daily interactions, the series consistently emphasizes the importance of vigilance and the guidance provided by the rescue squad.
