The end of an era: John Harbaugh’s final season in Baltimore
In short: After eighteen years at the helm, the 2025 Baltimore Ravens season marked a profound turning point. What began with Super Bowl ambitions spiraled into a chaotic campaign of injuries, unprecedented roster changes, and the conclusion of one of the NFL's most enduring coaching tenures.
The 2025 season was a rollercoaster of extremes for the Ravens. Entering the year as a Super Bowl favorite, the team suffered an abysmal 1–5 start, including a historic Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. No NFL squad had previously suffered a defeat while tallying at least 40 points and accumulating more than 235 rushing yards until that match. The roster was also shaken by the release of legendary kicker Justin Tucker on May 5, following allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct, marking the first time since 2011 that the team played without him.
Midseason, the Ravens found a second wind. Led by Lamar Jackson’s return to form, the team won five consecutive games to reach a 6–5 record and briefly claimed first place in the AFC North. This resurgence saw Mark Andrews become the franchise's all-time leader in receiving yards with 5,806, surpassing Derrick Mason’s 5,777. However, the momentum could not be sustained. A late-season collapse, punctuated by a Week 18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, eliminated Baltimore from the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
The season concluded the legendary 18-year tenure of head coach John Harbaugh. Two days after the season ended, Harbaugh was dismissed, leaving behind a significant legacy that included a Super Bowl XLVII victory and a 2019 Coach of the Year award. His final regular-season record stood at 180–113, with a 13–11 record in the playoffs. The campaign was defined by both individual milestones and systemic instability, signaling a total reset for the franchise.
