A season of unprecedented instability and the struggle for a new identity
In short: The 2025 Las Vegas Raiders season was defined by a revolving door of leadership. Amidst a historic losing streak and a league-worst offense, the franchise found itself at a crossroads, ultimately securing the top draft pick through a period of profound regression.
The 2025 campaign marked a period of extreme volatility for the Raiders. Entering the season under new general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll, the team struggled to find stability, fielding its fourth head coach and third general manager in just a few seasons. This instability mirrored the team's performance on the field; the Raiders finished with a 3–14 record, marking their fourth consecutive losing season and their 21st non-playoff season in the last 23 years.
Offensively, the team faced significant hurdles, scoring only 241 points—the lowest in the NFL that year. The season was punctuated by extreme statistical outliers, such as a Week 15 shutout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, where the Raiders' offense was held to just 75 total yards, their lowest output since 1961. Despite these struggles, the season ended on a high note of sorts: a 60-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson in the finale snapped a 10-game losing streak and secured the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, a feat not achieved by the franchise since 2007.
The aftermath of the season saw further upheaval. On January 5, 2026, the team fired Pete Carroll, marking the third consecutive year a head coach was dismissed. This era of struggle is part of a broader decline; the franchise's 21–47 record from 2022 to 2025 stands as their worst four-year stretch since relocating to Las Vegas, and their 23-year aggregate record since Super Bowl XXXVII remains one of the poorest in the league.
