The New York Jets set an NFL record for defensive futility
In short: The 2025 New York Jets season was defined by historic struggles. Beyond a dismal 3–14 record, the team achieved a feat never seen since 1933: they finished an entire season without recording a single defensive interception, marking a period of unprecedented failure for the franchise under head coach Aaron Glenn.
The 2025 campaign was a period of profound transition and unprecedented failure for the franchise. Under the leadership of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, the team entered its 66th overall season but struggled to find any rhythm. The season was marked by a franchise-record start for a new head coach, with Glenn losing his first seven games, a losing streak that saw the team fall to 0–7 alongside the 1996 and 2020 squads.
The team's defensive struggles reached historic levels of inefficiency. The Jets became the first NFL team to go an entire season without a defensive interception since the league began tracking the statistic in 1933. Their defensive production was so limited that they forced only four opponent turnovers all year, the lowest total for any team since the 2018 San Francisco 49ers. This defensive drought extended to a record 15 consecutive games without a defensive interception.
Offensively, the team faced significant hurdles, including a franchise-record low of -10 net passing yards in a single game against the Denver Broncos. Significant roster changes occurred during the campaign; specifically, the team exchanged All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner for draft picks from the Indianapolis Colts, alongside All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams for selections from the Dallas Cowboys, on November 4, 2025. Despite these losses, the team maintained high engagement, drawing an average home attendance of 73,666, the fifth-highest in the NFL.
