In short: The 2026–27 Swiss Super League marks a significant milestone in Swiss football history. As the 130th season of top-tier competitive play, the league is entering its third iteration under a new format designed to increase participation and intensity through a complex two-phase system.

The upcoming season, known commercially as the Brack Super League, will feature twelve teams competing in a multi-stage format. During the first phase, every team faces each other three times across 33 matchdays, concluding on 12 April 2026. Following this initial round, the league splits into two distinct groups of six: a championship group and a relegation group. This second phase begins on 25 April 2026, with each team playing five additional matches against their group peers for a total of 38 matchdays.

A critical mechanic of this system is that points earned during the first phase are carried over into the second phase. This ensures that early-season performance remains vital even as the league splits. The championship group will compete for the title of Swiss Football Champion and slots in European championships, with their final matchday set for 17 May 2026. Meanwhile, the relegation group battles to avoid the drop, with their final matchday scheduled for 4 June 2027.

The league's schedule is carefully paced, including a winter break that begins after matchday 19 on 20 December 2026 and resumes on 16 January 2027. The season is set to officially conclude on 30 May 2027. Notable shifts in the lineup include the return of FC Vaduz to the top tier after a five-year absence, while FC Winterthur will move down to the Challenge League after four years in the top flight. The defending champions heading into this period are Thun.
