The most complex chapter of Coubiș's career involves his international identity. Despite being born in Italy to Romanian parents from Suceava, he initially represented Romania at the youth level, including the European Under-19 Championship. In April 2023, he made a public declaration to switch allegiance to Italy. However, after failing to receive a cap for the Azzurri, FIFA approved his request on March 4, 2026, to return his international eligibility to Romania.
Following a series of moves—including a loan to Sampdoria in late 2025 and a permanent move to Universitatea Cluj in 2026—Coubiș eventually landed in England. On July 24, 2026, he signed a five-year contract with Lincoln City for a club-record fee estimated at £2.6 million. His journey highlights the globalized nature of football, where players navigate multiple leagues and national identities to find their professional footing.
