In short: After disappearing from the footballing map in 1924, Broxburn Athletic has staged a remarkable comeback. Once a junior side, the West Lothian club has navigated promotions, stadium redevelopments, and historic cup runs to secure its place in the senior Scottish football pyramid.

The history of Broxburn Athletic is marked by periods of both disappearance and rebirth. Following a stint at the original Albion Park in 1889 and a subsequent lease in 1894, the club amalgamated with Broxburn F.C. in 1912. After a period of dormancy that ended in 1924, the club was reformed in 1946 by Mr. G. W. Bartaby-Pearson. With the support of local businessmen and the securing of Albyn Park from the Earl of Buchan, the stadium officially opened in 1948, hosting a high-profile match between Heart of Midlothian and Rangers that drew roughly 3,500 spectators.

For decades, the club competed in the junior leagues, reaching the Scottish Junior Cup semi-final five times. Their most recent appearance in that stage occurred in 1971, where they suffered a narrow one-goal defeat to Cambuslang Rangers. The club's modern era began with significant structural shifts, including winning the East Region South Division in 2009–10 and moving into the senior football pyramid in 2018.

The club's recent trajectory has been defined by aggressive upward mobility. After winning the East of Scotland League Conference C in 2018–19, they faced the setback of missing promotion via a round-robin playoff. However, the 2023–24 season proved transformative; as champions of the East of Scotland League Premier Division, they faced Dalbeattie Star F.C. in a promotion playoff. A dominant 12-2 aggregate victory ensured their promotion to the Lowland League for the 2024–25 season.

Beyond league standings, the club has made waves in the Scottish Cup. In the 2019–20 season, as new SFA members, they reached the fourth round, defeating sides like East Stirlingshire and Cowdenbeath before falling to Premiership side St. Mirren in front of 4,372 fans. This spirit of competition continues to define the club as they play out their lease at Albyn Park, which is held through 2036.
