In short: Before he was a professional running back, Chris Rodriguez Jr. was an offensive lineman who had to reinvent himself after a broken arm. His journey through the college ranks and the NFL is a story of immense statistical success met with significant personal and professional hurdles.

Born in Riverdale, Georgia, on September 26, 2000, Christopher Rodriguez Jr. began his football career far from the spotlight of the backfield. In middle school, he played center on the offensive line, a position he only abandoned after suffering a broken arm during seventh grade. This injury forced a positional shift to fullback, and eventually, a move to running back during his time at Ola High School. By his senior year, he had become a formidable force, recording 1,669 yards and 25 touchdowns.

His collegiate career at the University of Kentucky was marked by both historic production and significant controversy. As a redshirt junior in 2021, he amassed 1,272 yards on 205 carries. He finished his tenure at Kentucky second in school history for career rushing touchdowns and third in rushing yards. However, his 2022 season was overshadowed by legal and disciplinary issues. Following a May 2022 arrest for driving under the influence and careless driving, he also faced accusations regarding inaccurate time cards from a part-time job at UK HealthCare. These incidents led to a four-game suspension at the start of the 2022 season.

Notwithstanding such hurdles, Rodriguez entered the NFL after the Washington Commanders drafted him during the 2023 sixth round. His professional path has been a cycle of roster moves, injuries, and contract shifts, including a stint on injured reserve due to concussion symptoms and a foot injury requiring surgery. In March 2026, he secured a significant two-year, $10 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, continuing a career defined by high-stakes adaptation.
