In short: Born on July 30, 2001, Chubba Purdy has navigated a complex collegiate career. From high school stardom in Arizona to multiple transfers between major programs, his path reflects the intense, shifting landscape of modern college football and the pursuit of starting roles.

Preston "Chubba" Purdy established himself as a standout talent at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona. During his two years as a starter, he amassed 9,000 yards and 111 touchdowns. During his 2019 final season, he accumulated 52 touchdowns and 4,423 total yards, securing the Arizona Offensive Player of the Year award. He originally committed to Louisville before switching his allegiance to Florida State. This high school success helped him earn recognition as a top prospect.

His collegiate journey began at Florida State, where he became only the fifth true freshman in program history to start at quarterback in 2020. However, his time in Tallahassee was hampered by injury; a collarbone surgery ended his freshman season less than a week after his first start. After appearing in one game as a redshirt freshman in 2021, he entered the transfer portal on November 3, 2021. His debut performance involved a 69-yard touchdown pass to Ontaria Wilson. This season ended prematurely following his surgical procedure.

Purdy subsequently moved to Nebraska in January 2022, where he faced further physical setbacks, including a season-ending ankle injury that required surgery. After a stint in the transfer portal and a brief commitment to San Jose State in early 2024, he ultimately landed at the University of Nevada. Despite entering the transfer portal for a third time in December 2024, he decided to return to Nevada for the 2025 season. While playing for the Cornhuskers, he made his debut against Oklahoma. He also saw limited action against Indiana and Rutgers.

Brock Purdy, who plays quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, is this athlete's elder sibling. Their father, Shawn, maintained this sporting legacy by playing minor league and University of Miami baseball. His sister, Whittney, was also an athlete, playing softball for Southeastern. This family has a strong tradition of competitive sports.
