In short: Before he was a midfield anchor for Lyon and Bayern Munich, Corentin Tolisso was a prolific forward. At just 11 years old, he scored a hat-trick against the very club that would eventually make him a star, setting the stage for a career defined by high-stakes transfers and global glory.

Corentin Tolisso's journey through professional football is marked by significant milestones and high-value movements. A product of the Lyon academy, he joined the club's youth system in 2007 at age 13. His early years were spent playing for local clubs near his birthplace of Tarare, often operating as a forward before transitioning into a tough-tackling, probing midfielder.

His rise was punctuated by a landmark move in the summer of 2017, when Bayern Munich signed him for an initial €41.5 million. At the time, this was a record for a transfer to a German club and surpassed Bayern's previous record for a signing, which was the €40 million spent on Javi Martínez in 2012. While the fee was a record for Lyon, it was quickly eclipsed by Alexandre Lacazette’s €53 million move to Arsenal just days later.

Tolisso's international career reached its zenith during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. As part of the French squad, he contributed to their 2–1 victory over Australia, a crucial substitution in the 4–3 win against Argentina, and an assist in the 2–0 quarter-final win over Uruguay. He ultimately earned a winner's medal after France defeated Croatia 4–2 in the final.

Despite facing setbacks, such as a ruptured cruciate ligament in September 2018, Tolisso has remained a central figure in elite European football. After his tenure in Germany, he returned to Lyon in July 2022 on a five-year deal, eventually being named club captain for the 2025–26 season.
