From Texas Longhorns standout to two-time NFL Pro Bowl return specialist
In short: Devin Duvernay has carved out a specialized niche in the NFL. After a prolific collegiate career at the University of Texas, he transitioned into a premier return specialist, earning Pro Bowl honors and a first-team All-Pro selection for his explosive ability to flip the field.
Duvernay's journey to professional football began with a standout high school career at Sachse High School in Texas. During his time there, he recorded 170 receptions for 2,906 yards and 36 touchdowns, including a school-record 109-yard kickoff return touchdown as a sophomore. Though he originally committed to Baylor University, he ultimately chose to play for the University of Texas at Austin.
His collegiate tenure in Austin was marked by steady progression. After appearing in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2016, he grew into the team's primary offensive weapon by his senior year in 2019. During that final season, he compiled 1,386 receiving yards on 106 receptions, alongside nine touchdowns. Following this performance, the Baltimore Ravens chose him during the 2020 NFL draft's third round as the 92nd selection.
In the NFL, Duvernay has demonstrated remarkable versatility. While he has served as a wide receiver, his most significant impact has often come as a return specialist. He earned his first Pro Bowl selection at the end of the 2021 season and a second at the end of 2022. His career has seen him suit the colors of the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Arizona Cardinals.
Beyond his individual accolades, Duvernay's football lineage is notable. A twin brother named Donovan, who also competed for the Texas Longhorns before moving to Northwestern State University, exists alongside his cousin, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray.
