From UCLA walk-on to NFL professional: the ascent of Greg Dulcich
In short: Rising from a collegiate walk-on to a high-value NFL tight end, Greg Dulcich's journey is a testament to persistence. After earning a scholarship on his 20th birthday, he transitioned from the UCLA Bruins to the professional ranks, navigating injuries and roster shifts to secure a multi-million dollar deal.
Greg Dulcich's path to professional football was defined by incremental progress and significant breakthroughs. After attending Saint Francis High School in La Cañada Flintridge, he entered the University of California, Los Angeles as a walk-on. His early collegiate years were marked by gradual development, including playing on special teams and as a receiver during his freshman season in 2019. A pivotal moment arrived on his 20th birthday in 2020, when UCLA informed him he had been awarded a scholarship.
His performance at UCLA saw him emerge as a premier collegiate tight end. In 2020, he led the Bruins in both receiving yards and touchdowns, recording 517 yards and five scores. Maintaining this drive through 2021, he secured first-team All-Pac-12 status and appeared on the preseason Mackey Award watch list, an accolade for the country's premier tight end. During that season, he recorded 725 receiving yards, finishing just behind teammate Kyle Philips.
Dulcich entered the NFL via the 2022 draft, selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round as the 80th overall pick. Despite facing hamstring injuries that landed him on injured reserve in August 2022, he made an immediate impact in his debut against the Los Angeles Chargers, catching a 39-yard touchdown from Russell Wilson. His professional career has since seen him move through the rosters of the Broncos and the New York Giants, eventually joining the Miami Dolphins' active roster in October 2025. By March 2026, he secured a one-year contract with the Dolphins valued at up to $3.25 million.
