A time-traveling disaster created a timeline where humanity never existed
In short: In the year 2009, a catastrophic laboratory overload didn't just break the laws of physics; it rewrote history. By distorting the Cretaceous Period, the accident erased humanity from the timeline, forcing a desperate, high-stakes rescue mission that would strand survivors in a prehistoric future.
The narrative of Dino Crisis 2 centers on a massive temporal anomaly caused by the 'Third Energy Project.' This experiment resulted in an overload that altered the Cretaceous Period so significantly that it created an alternate timeline where humans never evolved. To rectify this, an international organization initiated the 'Noah's Ark Plan.' This project used Time Gate technology to transport living Cretaceous organisms three million years into the future to a similar environment, intending to return them to their original time once the distortions were neutralized.
The plan failed when the gate overloaded and was destroyed, leaving both the dinosaurs and the human survivors stranded in the future. The game follows Regina, a member of the Secret Operations Raid Team (SORT), and Dylan Morton of the TRAT unit. They navigate a world populated by dinosaurs and mysterious helmeted attackers. These attackers are eventually revealed to be the children of the original survivors, who were placed in special life support chambers for growth. A side effect of these chambers stripped the children of their ability to speak and forced them to coexist with the dinosaurs.
The story reaches its climax when Dylan discovers a hologram from his future self in 2055. He learns that his daughter, Paula, is one of the silent, helmeted children. The hologram reveals that while the gate is destroyed, a basic gate remains that can only be used once. The ultimate choice for the survivors is to use this final chance to return home, with the instruction that Dylan must take Paula with him.
