How three local teams merged to form a Ras Al Khaimah football icon
In short: The Emirates Club was not born from a single vision, but from a series of complex mergers. From its origins as Oman Club in 1969 to its current identity, the club's history is a story of consolidation and evolving names in the UAE Pro League.
The lineage of Emirates Club is a complex tapestry of regional mergers. Formed by uniting Al Ittihad, Al Ahly, and Al Shaab, the Oman Club began in 1969. This early iteration of the club was a pioneer in the UAE league, standing alongside Al Ahli and Al Oruba as one of the first three teams to compete. However, their inaugural success was modest; they finished their early tenure in last place, securing only a single point. The club's early competitive efforts were marked by a difficult start in the league. Despite being pioneers, they struggled significantly during those initial seasons. This period laid the groundwork for the club's future development.
The club's identity underwent several significant transformations throughout the late 20th century. The organization adopted the name Al Qadsia during October 1982. By July 1984, Al Qadsia merged with Al Nassr and Al Taliya, creating the Emirates Cultural Sport Club. This period of restructuring was essential in shaping the club's long-term presence in the region's sporting landscape. These strategic consolidations helped stabilise the club's identity. Such structural changes were vital for its survival. This evolution ensured the club remained a key player in local sports.
The modern era of the club began in 2011. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah and Emirates Clubs, declared a two-club merger to form Emirates Club on 29 May 2011. This move was intended to represent the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and followed a recommendation from Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. The final composition of the club was officially announced on 11 June 2011, cementing its current status as a professional club in the UAE Pro League. The club currently competes within the UAE Pro League. It hosts its home fixtures at the Emirates Club Stadium. This professional status was solidified by the 2011 restructuring.
