How a shuttle bus helped one footballer join Juventus
In short: In 2011, Fabio Miretti joined Juventus, choosing the giants over other clubs for a very practical reason: they offered him a shuttle bus to training. Now a professional midfielder, his journey from a prolific youth scorer to the Italian senior team is a testament to early talent recognition.
Born in Pinerolo on 3 August 2003, Miretti’s rise was marked by extraordinary scoring numbers. By age 11, he had already netted 177 goals for the Pulcini side at Auxilium Saluzzo. His talent was quickly spotted by scouts, leading him to Cuneo in 2010 before he was acquired by Juventus the following year.
His progression through the Juventus ranks was rapid. After debuting for the under-23 team in February 2021 at age 17, he became a regular in Serie C. By the 2021–22 season, he had made his first-team debut in the UEFA Champions League against Malmö FF, describing the experience as an emotion he had never felt before.
Miretti has demonstrated significant tactical flexibility. While he began his career as a central midfielder, his natural instinct for scoring has seen him move up the pitch to play as a trequartista. He has also operated as a mezz'ala when coaching modules required it, earning comparisons to former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio for his finishing abilities.
On the international stage, Miretti has been a consistent presence for Italy since 2018. He has represented the nation at every level from under-15 to the senior team, which he debuted for in November 2020 against Austria. His technical vision and ball control have made him a standout talent, even earning him a spot on The Guardian's 2020 list of the 60 best talents born in 2003.
