From Rosario to the Premier League: the rapid rise of Facundo Buonanotte
In short: Born in Argentina to a family of Italian descent, Facundo Buonanotte has navigated a whirlwind professional career. Within just a few years, the attacking midfielder transitioned from the youth academy of Rosario Central to the high-stakes environment of the Premier League and beyond.
Facundo Buonanotte's professional journey began in earnest at Rosario Central, where he had been a student of their youth academy since he was ten years old. His entry into senior football arrived on 11 February 2022, when he appeared as a substitute against Arsenal de Sarandí. His impact was immediate; by May 2022, he had scored a decisive penalty in a Copa Argentina victory over Sol de Mayo, leading to his first professional contract the following day.
The midfielder's potential caught the attention of English clubs, leading to a significant transfer on 1 January 2023. Brighton & Hove Albion acquired him for an initial fee of approximately £5.3 million, a figure that could have risen by another £5.3 million based on specific performance objectives. After making his debut for the Seagulls in February 2023, Buonanotte quickly adapted to the pace of English football, recording his first Premier League goal against Nottingham Forest in April 2023.
Buonanotte's career has since been defined by a series of strategic moves across Europe's top leagues. Following a loan to Leicester City in August 2024, he moved to Chelsea on a season-long loan in September 2025. After a brief return to Brighton and a subsequent loan to Leeds United, he moved to the Spanish La Liga side Elche on 7 August 2026. Throughout this period, he has also represented the Argentina national under-20 team and earned his first senior international cap on 19 June 2023 against Indonesia.
This rapid progression from a teenager in Argentina to a player competing in multiple top-tier European leagues highlights the intense, nomadic nature of modern professional football development.
