From babysitting eleven siblings to scoring in the Super Bowl
In short: Before he was a professional athlete, George Holani was managing a household of eleven children. This sense of responsibility, forged in Auckland and Los Angeles, eventually propelled the Tongan-descended running back from the Boise State Broncos to a victory in Super Bowl LX.
Born in Auckland, New Rasland, to Tongan parents, George Holani’s early life was defined by significant domestic responsibility. As one of eleven children, he frequently acted as a babysitter for his siblings while his parents worked, a role that helped instill a foundational sense of duty. After his family relocated to Los Angeles, Holani balanced his upbringing with athletics, playing both football and rugby at St. John Bosco High School.
His collegiate career at Boise State was marked by immediate impact. During the 2019 season, he earned Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year honors following a standout performance against San Jose State, where he recorded 126 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Over his time with the Broncos, Holani accumulated 3,569 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns, alongside 88 receptions for 777 yards and eight touchdowns.
Holani entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Seattle Seahawks on May 3, 2024. His professional journey saw him navigate the volatility of roster changes, including being waived in August 2024 before being re-signed to the practice squad. His breakthrough came during the 2025 season; after being activated to the active roster following Kenneth Walker III's move to injured reserve, he scored his first NFL touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 14, 2025.
Despite facing a hamstring injury that placed him on injured reserve on November 29, 2025, Holani returned in time for the NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams. He eventually played a role in the Seahawks' 29–13 Super Bowl LX victory over the New England Patriots, contributing 13 scrimmage yards during the championship game.
