From high school track star to NFL playmaker, the evolution of Jalen Nailor
In short: Born in 1999, Jalen Nailor has navigated a unique path from a multi-sport high school standout in Nevada to a professional wide receiver. Known as Speedy, his journey through collegiate success at Michigan State and into the NFL reveals the persistence required to thrive at the highest level of football.
Jalen Rasheed Nailor, born on March 2, 1999, began his athletic career at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. A versatile athlete, he excelled in both football and track, securing four state titles. His high school performance was marked by 28 total touchdowns and over 2,000 yards. Although he initially committed to Arizona State, the firing of head coach Todd Graham led him to pivot, ultimately choosing to play for Michigan State University as a three-star recruit.
During his time at Michigan State, Nailor established himself as a significant deep-threat receiver. He led the Big Ten Conference in yards per catch in 2020 and served as the runner-up in 2021. His collegiate tenure included 28 games, 86 receptions, 1,453 yards, and 12 touchdowns. A standout moment occurred against Rutgers in 2021, where he recorded a career-high 221 yards and three touchdowns. Following this production, he declared for the 2022 NFL draft.
Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round, Nailor transitioned to the professional level. His rookie season saw him contribute on special teams and record his first career touchdown reception against the Green Bay Packers. After navigating injuries in 2023, he saw increased production in 2024 with 28 receptions and six touchdowns. This trajectory culminated in March 2026, when he signed a three-year, $35 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, marking a significant milestone in his professional career.
