In short: Before he was a Pro Bowl running back, Josh Jacobs faced the instability of homelessness during his middle school years. Today, he is a dominant force in the NFL, known for his explosive yardage and a relentless work ethic that has seen him lead the league in rushing.

Josh Jacobs' journey to the pinnacle of professional football was marked by significant early hardship. During his middle school years, he experienced homelessness, a period of instability that stands in stark contrast to his current status as an elite athlete. This resilience surfaced early in his football career; for much of the 2017 season while playing for the University of Alabama, Jacobs continued to compete despite playing on a broken ankle.

His ascent through the ranks was rapid. After a standout collegiate career, including being named the MVP of the 2018 SEC Championship Game, he was taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders. His impact was immediate. In his rookie season, he became the first player in Raiders history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards, setting a franchise rookie record with 740 yards before injuries slowed his season. He followed this with another 1,000-yard rushing campaign in 2020, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

Jacobs reached a career peak in 2022, leading the entire NFL in rushing yards with 1,653. That season, he also became the first Raider since 1985 to exceed 2,000 scrimmage yards. His success has been recognized by his peers and the league alike; he has received multiple Pro Bowl nods and was awarded the NFL's inaugural Jim Brown Award in 2023. After five seasons in Oakland, he moved to the Green Bay Packers in 2024, continuing to prove his value as a premier playmaker in the league.
