In short: In 1966, a strategic policy to professionalize Anatolian football transformed the landscape of Turkish sports. By merging Erciyesspor, Sanayispor, and Ortaanadoluspor, Kayserispor was born, eventually rising from a regional newcomer to a European competitor with a trophy-winning legacy.

Kayserispor’s origins lie in the mid-1960s, driven by Orhan Şeref Apak’s Turkish Football Federation policy to expand professional football into Anatolia. Following local negotiations in Kayseri, three existing clubs—Erciyesspor, Sanayispor, and Ortaanadoluspor—merged to form the club, which was officially established on 1 July 1966. Their debut season in the 2.Lig saw them finish 10th, marked by a first goal from Yener Kurgil in a match against Ankara Toprakspor.

The club's history is defined by periods of significant identity shifts and sporting peaks. In 2004, a unique restructuring occurred: the promoted Erciyesspor swapped its name, badge, and colors with the Kayserispor identity. This era preceded a golden period in the mid-2000s. Under manager Ertuğrul Sağlam, the club achieved a fifth-place finish in the 2005–06 season, featuring top-scorer Gökhan Ünal, who netted 25 goals in 32 matches. This momentum led to a shared victory in the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup, granting them entry into the UEFA Cup.

Despite the highs, the club's history is shadowed by the 1967 stadium disaster during a match against Sivasspor. A stampede caused by crowd trouble resulted in 43 fatalities, one of the darkest days in Turkish football. Today, the club competes in the TFF 1. Lig, playing at the 31,85<0xA0>56-capacity Kadir Has Stadium. While the club has navigated numerous sponsorship-driven name changes—from İstikbal Mobilya to Bellona—its core identity remains rooted in the red and yellow colors and the symbol of Mount Erciyes.
