The Milwaukee prodigy rewriting the NBA record books
In short: In just 58 games, Kon Knueppel has shattered long-standing NBA milestones. From a high school state champion to a record-breaking rookie for the Charlotte Hornets, this Wisconsin native is redefining the speed of elite perimeter shooting.
Born in 2005, Kon Knueleppel’s ascent through the basketball ranks was marked by unprecedented statistical efficiency. After a dominant high school career at Wisconsin Lutheran—where he led his team to a 30–0 record and a 2024 Division 2 State Championship—he moved to Duke University. His collegiate tenure was highlighted by an ACC tournament MVP performance in March 2025, setting the stage for his transition to the professional level.
After being selected fourth in the 2025 NBA draft by Charlotte, Knueppel displayed incredible scoring prowess during his debut year. He established himself as the fastest player in NBA history to reach both 50 and 100 career three-pointers, reaching the latter milestone in only 29 games and surpassing Lauri Markkanen's previous record by 12 games. He continued this trajectory by becoming the fastest to reach 200 career three-pointers, achieving the feat in his 58th game and beating Duncan Robinson's record of 69 games.
Knueppel's impact on the Hornets' offense is historic. He became the first rookie in NBA history to lead the league in three-pointers made during a single season, finishing with 273. He and LaMelo Ball joined Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson as the only pair to each hit over 270 treys in a single campaign. Despite finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Cooper Flagg, his season was defined by breaking franchise and league-wide benchmarks for rookie shooting accuracy.
