In short: Kuching City F.C. is the youngest club to ever reach the summit of Malaysian football. Founded in 2015 to promote grassroots sports, it has rapidly ascended from local district representation to qualifying for prestigious Asian continental competitions, defying the traditional timeline of club development.

In 2015, the Football Association of Malaysia launched the People's Football League with a specific mandate: to transform lower leagues and promote amateur football across every district and state. Kuching F.A. was born from this initiative to represent the Kuching district in Sarawak. The club's ascent began almost immediately; in the inaugural 2015–16 Liga Bolasepak Rakyat, they secured the championship by defeating Padang Besar 3–1 at Selayang Stadium, earning automatic promotion to the 2017 Piala FAM.

The path to the top was not linear. The club spent several seasons navigating the FAM League, consistently finishing in 4th place in their respective groups. They eventually secured a spot in the 2020 Malaysia Premier League, where they adopted their signature green and white stripes and the 'City of Unity' moniker. A pivotal turning point arrived in 2023 when their MFL License was approved, allowing them to join the Malaysia Super League for the first time. This era saw the appointment of former Singaporean legend Aidil Sharin Sahak as head coach, who led the team to its first-ever cup final in the 2023 MFL Challenge Cup.

The club's meteoric rise culminated in the 2025–26 season, where they finished as runners-up in the Malaysia Super League with 53 points. By reaching this milestone, the side secured unprecedented entry into two significant regional competitions: the 2026–27 AFC Champions League Two and the 2026–27 ASEAN Club Championship. They play their home matches at Taha Ariffin Stadium, a venue with a capacity of approximately 26,000 spectators, named after a prominent figure who shaped Sarawak’s football administration in the late 20th century.
