The versatile voice behind some of anime's most iconic characters
In short: From the legendary Killua Zoldyck to the magical Cure Lemonade, Mariya Ise has shaped the auditory landscape of modern animation. Discover how a childhood encounter with a Studio Ghibli masterpiece sparked a prolific career spanning decades of gaming and television.
Mariya Ise's journey into the world of voice acting began much earlier than her professional debut. While in the third grade, she watched the Studio Ghibli film Princess Mononoke, an experience that ignited her interest in acting. Interestingly, her initial ambitions were not focused on performing, but rather on the behind-on-the-scenes work of directing.
Her professional career took flight in 2002 when she starred in the anime series Aishiteruze Baby. This early success was quickly followed by high-profile roles, including the character Cure Lemonade in the Yes! PreCure 5 franchise and a guest appearance in the Lupin III: Seven Days Rhapsody television special. Since then, she has become recognized as a prolific talent capable of immense range.
Ise's filmography spans a massive array of genres and mediums. In the realm of television animation, she has voiced characters such as Killua Zoldyck in the 2011 series Hunter × Hunter, Ray in The Promised Neverland, and Stocking in Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Her work extends deeply into the video game industry, providing voices for major titles including Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy XIV, and the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series.
Beyond her professional milestones, Ise's personal life has seen significant transitions. After moving her talent agency from Bring-up to Across Entertainment in 2009, she married in January 2015. Following the birth of her son in the fall of 2015, she later navigated a divorce in August 2022, retaining full custody of her son.
