In short: For Mike McMeeken, the journey from the West London Sharks to the Super League Grand Final was defined by resilience. A versatile forward who has represented England on the world stage, his career spans the elite clubs of the Super League and the intense competition of international rugby league.

Born in Basingstoke and raised in Fleet, Hampshire, McMeeken’s path to professional rugby league was not immediate. While he played rugby union in his early years, he was introduced to the league code at age ten, joining the amateur West London Sharks. His professional ascent began in 2012 with the London Broncos, where he made his senior debut and scored his first professional try during the 2014 season in a match against the Salford Red Devils.

McMeeken’s career is marked by significant stints at several major Super League clubs. Following the London Broncos' relegation in 2014, he moved to the Castleford Tigers on a two-year deal, eventually securing an extension that kept him at the club until the end of the 2020 season. He also experienced the high stakes of the Super League Grand Final, appearing in the 2017 defeat by Leeds at Old Trafford, and later with the Catalans Dragons, where he faced Grand Final losses in both 2021 against St Helens and 2023 against Wigan.

On the international stage, McMeeken has become a fixture for England. He made his senior international debut in May 2017 against Samoa in Campbelltown, Australia, and has since represented his country in both the 2017 and 2021 Rugby League World Cups. His longevity is evident in his recent selections, including a spot in the 24-man England squad for the 2025 Ashes Test series against Australia. Whether playing as a second-row or a prop forward, his versatility has made him a vital asset for both club and country.

In May 2024, reports indicated he had signed a four-year deal with Wakefield Trinity, continuing his career in the Super League.
