In short: When Swedbank held the naming rights to Sweden's largest stadium, they did something unexpected. Instead of keeping the branding for themselves, they donated the rights to a non-profit fighting school bullying. This act of corporate philanthropy transformed the venue into the Friends Arena.

Located in Solna, just north of Stockholm's city centre, Nationalarenan is a massive, multi-purpose feat of engineering. Designed by Danish C.F. Møller Architects, the stadium features a retractable roof that allows for events during the Swedish winter and a facade capable of displaying 17 million different color schemes. It serves as the home for the Swedish men's national football team and the club AIK, both of whom moved there from the historic Råsunda Stadium.

The stadium's history is marked by significant financial and structural shifts. While the project's final cost was calculated at over 4 billion SEK, the initial estimates before construction began were around 2.3 billion kronor. The venue was not always known by its current name. Originally intended to be the Swedbank Arena under a 153 million kronor deal, the rights were donated in 2012 to the non-profit organization Friends. More recently, on July 12, 2024, the venue transitioned to its current name, Strawberry Arena, following a sponsorship agreement with a Norwegian hotel company.

Beyond football, the arena has hosted a diverse array of global events. It held the 2017 UEFA Europa League Final and the 2013 UEFA Women's Euro final, where 41,301 spectators watched Germany defeat Norway. The venue has also been a stage for the Swedish bandy championship, the Speedway Grand Prix of Scandinavia, and the Melodifestivalen competition. Its capacity is highly scalable, ranging from approximately 20,000 guests for smaller events to 50,000 seated for football and 65,000 for large-scale concerts.
