His performance caught the attention of North American scouts, leading him to sign as an undrafted free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs on May 17, 2018. He debuted on October 3, 2018, against the Montreal Canadiens and scored his first NHL goal just ten days later against the Washington Capitals. However, his time in Toronto was relatively brief; he played 61 games before being traded to the Winnipeg Jets on February 25, 2019.
The subsequent years of Lindholm's career highlight the volatility of professional sports contracts. After a two-year deal with the Boston Bruins resulted in him primarily serving as a healthy scratch during the pandemic-delayed 2020–21 season, he was placed on unconditional waivers for contract termination in February 2021. This allowed him to return to Sweden and later move to Russia's KHL to play for Ak Bars Kazan.
Lindholm eventually returned to his roots in the SHL with Skellefteå AIK in May 2022.
