From the NFL gridiron to the executive suite, how one athlete reinvented his career
In short: Scott McKnight’s journey from a record-breaking college wide receiver to a prominent media executive is a study in pivot-point agility. After a professional football career cut short by injury, he successfully transitioned into the entertainment industry, producing high-profile documentaries and building a media company that bridges the gap between athletes and storytelling.
Born in Newport Beach in 1988, Scott McKnight established himself as a standout wide receiver at the University of Colorado. His collegiate career was defined by remarkable consistency; he finished as the program's all-time leader in receptions with 215 and receiving touchdowns with 22. Notably, he was the tenth player in NCAA history to catch a pass in every game he played—a streak of 49 games—and the only Colorado player to lead the team in receptions for four consecutive seasons. This performance earned him three John Mack Awards and the inaugural Kordell Stewart Career Achievement Award.
McKnight’s professional football trajectory was hampered by significant physical setbacks. Selected by the New York Jets in the 2011 NFL draft, his tenure was marked by a series of injuries, including a catastrophic left knee injury in 2011 involving a torn ACL, MCL, PCL, and meniscus, followed by a fractured kneecap in 2012. These events effectively ended his playing days, forcing a rapid transition into a new professional chapter. He pivoted toward media, starting as a writer for the CBS series CSI: Cyber before founding the media company GOAT Farm Sports.
Today, McKnight operates as a producer and executive, focusing on the intersection of sports and culture. He has served as an executive producer on various projects, including the Fox documentary Tua, which earned a 2021 Sports Emmy nomination, and Culture of Winning: Polynesian Football Pride. His work often highlights the personal narratives of athletes, from NFL prospects to generational talents like Julian Lewis. Beyond production, he has expanded his influence into the technology sector as an angel investor in the coaching platform Asensei, proving that his impact on the sports world has evolved far beyond the field.
