A historic milestone for the first father-son duo to both record NBA triple-doubles
In short: In November 2024, Scotty Pippen Jr. achieved something his Hall of Fame father, Scottie Pippen, never did. By recording a triple-double, the Memphis Grizzlies guard etched his name into the history books, marking the first time in NBA history that both a father and son have achieved this rare statistical feat.
Born on November 10, 2000, in Portland, Oregon, Scotty Pippen Jr. has spent much of his career navigating the immense shadow of his father, Hall-of-Famer Scottie Pippen. While Scottie's legacy is defined by six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, Scotty Jr. has had to carve his own path through the collegiate and professional ranks. His mother, Larsa Pippen, is a well-known media personality from The Real Housewives of Miami. Additionally, he is of Assyrian descent.
During his time at Vanderbilt University, he achieved SEC All-Freshman status in 2020 and earned a spot on the First Team All-SEC during his junior year. After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft, he navigated the professional circuit via the Los Angeles Lakers and the South Bay Lakers before finding a home with the Memphis Grizzlies. Before his time at Vanderbilt, he attended Sierra Canyon School in California. There, he played alongside several other future NBA players.
The historic moment arrived on November 8, 2024, when Pippen recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in a victory over the Washington Wizards. This feat established him and his father as the inaugural father-son pair in NBA history to both achieve a triple-double. This milestone highlights a rare continuity of elite athletic performance across generations. He achieved this milestone during a 128–104 win against the Washington Wizards. This performance followed a career-high 30-point game against the Chicago Bulls.
However, his professional trajectory has faced physical challenges. Following a sesamoidectomy for a left big toe injury in October 2025, Pippen returned to action in February 2026, only to undergo a second sesamoidectomy in March 2026, which ruled him out for the remainder of that season. His career has also been marked by an altercation with Myron Gardner. This incident resulted in both players receiving $35,000 fines.
