In short: Tuck Jagadish was designed for the big screen as a massive commercial entertainer. Yet, a combination of global health crises and regional ticket pricing regulations fundamentally altered its destiny, transforming a theatrical release into an exclusive digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

The production of Tuck Jagadish faced significant hurdles starting in early 2020. Principal photography began in February 2020 across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. While filming resumed in October 2020 under safety protocols, a key technician's diagnosis led to further halts. By the time the film entered post-production in December 2020, only about 75% of the shooting was complete.

The path to release was marked by repeated deferrals. Originally slated for April 2021, it was pushed back due to India's second COVID-19 wave. When plans for a late-summer theatrical return emerged, producers faced a new obstacle: new ticket price regulations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. These rules, which allowed for higher rates on high-budget films, drew heavy criticism from the film fraternity, prompting producers to pivot toward digital rights.

The final decision to release on Amazon Prime Video on September 10, 2021, was influenced by both these regulations and decisions made by streaming platform executives. This shift highlights a modern tension in cinema: the balance between the 'big-screen entertainment' championed by actors like Nani and the logistical realities of distribution in a post-pandemic economy.

The film also saw creative shifts behind the scenes. Music director Thaman S initially worked on the project but walked out due to differences of opinion with director Shiva Nirvana. This left Gopi Sundar to handle the background score, while Thaman completed five songs for the soundtrack.
