In short: When McDonald's exited Russia in 2022, it left behind a massive infrastructure and a familiar menu. The resulting chain, Vkusno i Tochka, represents one of the most rapid corporate transformations in recent history—a move that forced a total overhaul of branding, logistics, and even trademark law.

Following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, McDonald's suspended operations in Russia on March 8, 2022. By May 16, the company decided to exit the market entirely, selling its stores to a local licensee, Alexander Govor. The transition was swift: the legal entity remained largely intact (renamed from McDonald's LLC to PBO System LLC), and CEO Oleg Paroyev stayed in his position. However, the branding underwent a radical shift, moving away from the iconic golden arches toward the name Vkusno i Tochka, which translates to 'Tasty, period.'

The logistical reality of this transition was complex. While the new chain uses the same equipment and ingredients as its predecessor, it faced immediate supply chain hurdles. In early 2022, some locations lacked full menu items due to packaging logistics. Furthermore, because Coca-Cola departed Russia, Vkusno i Tochka had to replace standard drinks with 'Dobry' brand analogs. Even signature items like the Big Mac equivalent (The Big Hit) were delayed until February 2023 to ensure the sauce and composition did not infringe on McDonald's trademarks.

Beyond the kitchen, the rebranding has sparked a unique cultural and legal debate. Critics have mocked the name for being cumbersome in daily speech, while some protesters even demanded the return of the Big Mac. The new logo has faced comparisons to everything from Marriott International to Portuguese pet food brands. Legally, the chain already faces litigation; a competitor in Primorsky Krai filed a lawsuit in June 2022, alleging that 'Tasty, period' plagiarizes their existing trademark, 'Food, full stop.'

The expansion has also seen regional variations. While Vkusno i Tochka operates primarily in Russia, it has expanded into Belarus and Kazakhstan under different names—such as Mak.by or I'm—due to specific contract terms with McDonald's that prevent the use of the 'Vkusno i Tochka' brand in those territories.
