In short: For years, the creators of Wallace & Gromit avoided making a new feature film, haunted by the demands of American commercialism. It took a shift in strategy—moving from a planned 30-minute short to a full-length feature—to finally deliver a

Following the 2005 release of The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, director Nick Park became hesitant to pursue another feature-length project. He was mainly troubled by his collaboration with DreamWorks Animation, particularly the incessant feedback and requirements to modify content for a younger US audience. Due to this conflict, Park opted for the 'half hour format' throughout the following years.

The path to Vengeance Most Fowl began in January 2022. Originally conceived as another 30-minute short, the project eventually expanded into a feature film. This transition was marked by significant logistical hurdles, including the March 2023 closure of Newclay Products, the factory responsible for the 'Lewis Newplast' modeling clay used by Aardman Animations. The studio had to purchase enough remaining clay to cover the production of the film.

The film serves as a technological meditation, featuring Wallace's robotic garden gnome, Norbot. While the plot involves a villainous penguin, Feathers McGraw, hijacking Norbot to create a robotic army, the narrative explores the tension between human touch and automation. This theme is punctuated by the film's conclusion, where Wallace acknowledges that machinery cannot replace the human element, a sentiment that resonated with critics who described the work as a 'rigorous artistic statement in our modern mechanized age.'

The film's success was historic. Following its 27 October 2024 debut at the American Film Institute, the production reached 21.6 million catch-up viewers in 28 days, making it the BBC's highest-rated scripted series since 2002. It also secured major accolades, including the inaugural BAFTA award for Children's & Family Film and the award for Animated Film.
