In short: For over fourteen years, Celebrity Juice defined a specific brand of chaotic British comedy. Led by the fictional character Keith Lemon, the show evolved from a news-focused quiz into a platform for celebrity games and irreverent humor, leaving a complex legacy of both industry awards and critical disapproval.

The series originated from a 2007 proposal following the conclusion of the sketch program Bo' Selecta!. ITV commissioned the show to feature the character Keith Lemon, portrayed by writer and presenter Leigh Francis. Initially, the premise centered on testing how well teams understood the week's tabloid headlines. However, as the production progressed, the focus shifted away from news analysis toward the comedic dynamics of the celebrity guests and the various games they participated in.

The show maintained a consistent presence on ITV2 from its debut on 24 September 2008 until its conclusion on 15 December 2022. Throughout its run, the program moved between production facilities, filming at Riverside Studios until 2014 before relocating to Elstree Studios Stage 9. Production was handled by Talkback Thames, which later rebranded as Talkback. The show saw several changes in leadership, with original team captains Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby eventually departing after ten and twelve years, respectively. They were succeeded by figures such as Paddy McGuinness, Mel B, Laura Whitmore, and Emily Atack.

Public reception of the show was notably polarized. While it secured recognition from industry bodies, winning a TV Choice Award for Best Entertainment Show in 2011, a National Television Award in 2012, and a BAFTA for Best YouTube Audience that same year, it also faced harsh criticism. For three consecutive years starting in 2009, the British Comedy Guide’s annual awards labeled it the least impressive panel show in the country. Despite this, the brand expanded into other media, including a 68-page calendar and a 160-page book, before ITV officially cancelled the series in June 2022.
