How Disney built a floating adventure park with a haunted bar and water coaster
In short: The Disney Treasure is the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, blending massive engineering with immersive storytelling. Beyond its sheer scale, the vessel introduces unique features like a bar inspired by a classic theme park attraction and a water coaster that weaves through an original animated short film.
The Disney Treasure represents the latest evolution in the Wish class of cruise ships. Developed under the internal codename Triton, this vessel is slightly larger than its predecessors in the Dream class, boasting a gross tonnage of approximately 144,256. While it maintains a similar count of 1,250 guest cabins, the ship integrates modern maritime technology, including liquefied natural gas propulsion and azimuthing podded propulsion systems to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
Construction of the vessel was a multi-year effort managed by the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft. Following the keel laying in March 2023, the ship underwent rigorous testing, including sea trials in the Skagerrak. During its delivery voyage to North America in late 2024, the ship demonstrated its capabilities by rescuing four people from a distressed sailboat near Bermuda. The vessel officially entered service in December 2024, departing from Port Canaveral for Caribbean itineraries.
The onboard experience is defined by thematic immersion. The ship features a rotational dining system where guests move between three distinct restaurants—1923, Worlds of Marvel, and Plaza de Coco—while their wait staff remains consistent. Beyond dining, the ship hosts a variety of entertainment, including a Haunted Mansion-themed bar, a water coaster called the AquaMouse, and live productions in the Walt Disney Theatre. These spaces draw inspiration from diverse cultural motifs and iconic Disney properties, creating a cohesive narrative of exploration and adventure at sea.
