From commercial modeling to the top of Korea's celebrity power list
In short: Kim Ji-eun’s ascent in the South Korean entertainment industry is a masterclass in persistence. Before becoming a household name in espionage thrillers and historical dramas, she spent years navigating the grueling path of independent auditions and behind-the-scenes crew work to break into the mainstream.
Kim Ji-eun began her professional journey in 2016 as a commercial model for Bacchus-F. To secure a foothold in the competitive acting world, she took a multifaceted approach to visibility. This included participating in music video shoots, working as a crew member, and conducting independent auditions to catch the eye of talent management agencies.
Her formal training took place at Cheongju University in the Department of Theater. After signing with HB Entertainment, she secured her first film role in 2019's Long Live the King, followed quickly by a major role in the crime suspense series Hell Is Other People. Her career reached a significant turning point in 2021 with the espionage thriller The Veil, where she played a NIS agent with a personal agenda.
The momentum continued in 2022 with two high-profile roles: a conglomerate heiress in the action fantasy Again My Life and a legal trainee in the comedy One Dollar Lawyer. By 2023, she achieved significant commercial success, ranking 13th in the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40—the second-highest ranking for an actress that year. Following a period of hosting and variety show appearances, she returned to a prolific acting schedule in 2024 with three simultaneous series, including the historical romance Check-in Hanyang.
In November 2024, Kim transitioned to a new agency, Namoo Actors, marking the latest chapter in a career defined by steady growth from the periphery of the industry to its mainstream center.
