From survival show contestant to award-winning actress: the trajectory of Kim Min-ju
In short: Born in 2001, Kim Min-ju transitioned from a reality television competitor to a celebrated figure in South Korean cinema. After gaining prominence as a member of the girl group Iz*One, she successfully pivoted to a full-time acting career, earning critical acclaim and prestigious industry recognition for her performances.
Kim Min-ju began her professional journey in the entertainment industry long before her rise to international fame. In 2016, she was part of a pre-debut group called Girls' Recipe, though the project was ultimately cancelled. She gained early experience through appearances in music videos and television dramas, including a role as the younger version of Choi Su-ji in the 2018 series Tempted.
Her breakthrough occurred during the 2018 reality competition Produce 48. Representing Urban Works, Kim finished in eleventh place, securing her spot in the girl group Iz*One. The group officially debuted in October 2018 with the release of their first EP, Color*Iz. During her time with the group, she also balanced solo projects, such as her role in the 2019 film The Fault Is Not Yours and her tenure as a co-host for the music program Show! Music Core starting in 2020.
Following the disbandment of Iz*One in April 2021, Kim shifted her primary focus toward acting. She transitioned from Urban Works to Management Soop in 2022 to further this career path. Her performance in the historical drama The Forbidden Marriage was particularly well-received, earning her a top honor for new acting talent at the 2022 MBC Drama Awards. She continues to build her filmography with projects like the 2024 film Hear Me: Our Summer and the upcoming 2026 release Still Shining.
