The siblings who were mistaken for a romantic couple
In short: For years, the public assumed the members of the country music duo The Reklaws were dating. This persistent confusion about their sibling relationship was so profound that it initially made them hesitant to record songs with romantic themes.
Formed in 2012 by siblings Stuart and Jenna Walker from North Dumfries, Ontario, The Reklaws built a career on the foundation of their family roots. Growing up as two of seven children, they performed for visitors at their parents' Yee Haw Adventure Farm before attending Glenview Park Secondary School. Their stage name is a clever linguistic flip: 'Reklaw' is simply 'Walker' spelled backwards, a suggestion from their mother to create a more distinct brand than 'Sibling Rivalry'.
The duo's rise in the Canadian country scene was marked by significant milestones and record-breaking statistics. After signing with Universal Music Canada, they achieved four number one hits on the Canada Country chart. A Nielsen BDS record for highest weekly Canadian country radio play was established in February 2020, when their 'Can't Help Myself' team-up with Dean Brody garnered 1,782 spins. The promotional track "What the Truck" from 2021 achieved a milestone as the quickest domestic hit for a Canadian country tune to hit 1 million streams.
Beyond chart success, the duo has integrated into various cultural and charitable spheres. They have provided theme music for the Canadian Football League (CFL) on TSN and performed at major events like the Grey Cup. In 2023, they participated in a charity recording for youth mental health, and in September 2024, they released the EP "Outliving (for Mom)" to honor their late mother. This release coincided with the launch of the Flo Walker Stardust Fund, established on what would have been her sixtieth birthday.
