The final piece of power for the International Space Station

Battery Changeout Completed at ISS · 40:29 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: Watch how astronauts completed a critical hardware upgrade during one of the shuttle's most significant missions. This video captures the technical precision required to swap out the station's primary energy source.

During the STS-132 mission, Mission Specialists Mike Good and Garrett Reisman performed a series of extravehicular activities to upgrade the International Space Station's power system. On the third and final spacewalk of the mission, they successfully installed the last three new batteries onto the P6 truss segment.

This hardware replacement was part of a weeks-long stay by the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis. The completion of this task ensured the station's continued operational capacity before the shuttle's departure.
