From Midwest roots to orbiting laboratories: The journey of Kjell Lindgren
In short: Watch NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren prepare for his voyage to the International Space Station. This footage captures the final stages of training and the transition from Earth-bound preparation to life in orbit.
To begin his concluding fortnight of pre-launch preparation at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Flight Engineer Kjell Lindgren left his Star City, Russia home within the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. It highlights the international cooperation required for space exploration, as Lindgren joins a crew including Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko and Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui.
Lindgren's path to orbit is rooted in medicine; he is board certified in emergency and aerospace medicine and served as a flight surgeon at NASA’s Johnson Space Center starting in 2007. His mission involves supporting hundreds of experiments in fields ranging from biotechnology to Earth science aboard humanity's only orbiting laboratory.
