The life and lunar legacy of Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell
In short: This video commemorates the life of Edgar Mitchell, the sixth person to walk on the moon, whose journey spanned from Navy service to the study of human consciousness.
Edgar Mitchell, a retired US Navy Captain, died at age 85 in West Palm Beach, Florida. As the lunar module pilot for Apollo 14, Mitchell joined Commander Alan Shepard and Stuart Roosa to land the Antares module at the Fra Mauro highlands on February 5, 1971.
During his 33-hour mission, Mitchell and Shepard performed two moonwalks, collecting nearly 100 pounds of lunar soil and rocks. Beyond his spaceflight, Mitchell held a Doctorate of Science from MIT and later dedicated his retirement to researching human consciousness.
