In short: Before launching for the International Space Station, the Expedition 44 crew visited Star City, Russia. This video captures the crew paying respects at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center to honor the legacy of Yuri Gagarin.

On July 8, the prime crew members for Expedition 44—Oleg Kononenko (Roscosmos), Kjell Lindgren (NASA), and Kimiya Yui (JAXA)—visited the Gagarin Museum to view historic artifacts. Following this, they participated in traditional ceremonies by laying flowers at a statue dedicated to Yuri Gagarin, the pioneer of human spaceflight.

The crew, including backups Yuri Malenchenko, Tim Kopra, and Timothy Peake, prepared for their upcoming mission. Kononenko, Lindgren, and Yui were scheduled to depart from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on July 23 aboard the Soyuz TMA-17M for a five-month stay on the International Space Station.
