The high-stakes choreography of maintaining humanity's orbital laboratory
In short: Watch as Roscosmos cosmonauts venture into the vacuum to perform essential maintenance on the International Space Station. This video captures the precision required to install new experiments and retrieve hardware from the station's Russian segment.
The footage highlights a complex logistical operation involving the installation of solar radiation experiments on the Zvezda service module and the removal of science hardware from the Poisk and Nauka modules. These spacewalks are critical for ongoing research, as some experiments gather data for several months before being swapped.
Beyond scientific maintenance, these missions often involve troubleshooting technical failures, such as photographing a Progress 94 cargo spacecraft's Kurs rendezvous antenna that failed to deploy in March. The work represents the 279th spacewalk dedicated to the assembly and upgrades of the orbiting complex.
