A three-ton lifeline for the International Space Station
In short: Watch the launch of the unpiloted ISS Progress 64 cargo ship from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This video captures the critical logistics of keeping astronauts alive and fueled in orbit.
Launched on July 16 at 5:41 p.m. Eastern time, the Progress 64 ship carries three tons of essential supplies, including food and fuel. It reached its preliminary orbit in under nine minutes and began a two-day transit to the International Space Station.
The vessel is scheduled to dock automatically with the Pirs Docking Compartment on the Russian segment of the station on July 18. Once docked, it will serve as a supply hub until mid-January 2017.
