In short: In 2003, Mark Millar launched a creator-owned imprint that would eventually redefine the boundaries between comic books and streaming television. From the gritty streets of Kick-Ass to the high-stakes world of Kingsman, the Millarverse has evolved from a niche collection of titles into a global multimedia franchise.

Launched in 2003 with the miniseries Wanted, Millarworld was designed as a shared fictional universe, often referred to as the Millarverse. The imprint features a diverse roster of characters, including Wesley Gibson, Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl, and Eggsy Unwin. While many of the core series were written by Millar himself, the imprint has also served as a platform for other writers to expand on established legends, such as the second volumes of Kingsman and Hit-Girl.

The business model behind the imprint is notably collaborative. Millar has famously stated that he splits all proceeds from film adaptation rights—including advances, toys, and games—50-50 with the illustrating artists. This commitment to fairness is intended to honor the collaborative nature of the medium, even when faced with pushback from industry agents.

A major shift occurred on 7 August 2017, when the American streaming giant Netflix acquired Millarworld. This acquisition transformed the imprint's trajectory, moving it from traditional publishing toward a heavy focus on television and film. Under Netflix, the strategy shifted to exclusive adaptations, including the anime series Supercrooks, produced by Bones, and television projects like Jupiter's Legacy and The Chosen One.

The imprint's publishing history has seen significant transitions. After years of managing its own publication schedule, Millarworld entered a new era in December 2023, signing a deal with Dark Horse Comics. This partnership aims to republish classic titles and launch new series, such as Nemesis: Rogues' Gallery, ensuring the continued expansion of the Millarverse through both print and digital screens.
